Doomcult is a Death-Doom Metal band from The Netherlands formed in 2014.
Doomcult began as a solo project by J.G. Arts, who released two albums and evolved into a full band in early 2020.
Their sound is a chilling blend of harsh screams, deep death growls, eerie atmospheres, and haunting melodies, all crafted in the name of doom.
Doomcult draws inspiration from iconic 90s doom/death bands such as Anathema, Paradise Lost, and My Dying Bride, while also embracing the somber tones of funeral doom acts like Worship and Aphonic Threnody.
Elements of sludge and black metal further enrich their sound. At the heart of each composition are the rhythm guitars, with intricate leads weaving around them.
Lyrically, Doomcult delves into misanthropic themes, interspersed with blasphemous and anti-establishment undertones. These dark narratives are delivered through deep death growls, complemented by thrash-metal-style screams. Subtle mellotron accents are added where needed to enhance the eerie atmosphere.
The current line-up of Doomcult includes Rens van Herpt on vocals, Jorik Arts on bass and vocals, Willem Verachtert on guitar, Berry Collou on guitar, and Dirk Meulendijks on drums.
'Sacrifice All Life', the fourth album from Doomcult sees its creation influenced by several factors.
Firstly, witnessing a performance by the band Ataraxie provided a significant burst of inspiration, particularly in incorporating more fast-paced elements into doom.
Secondly, with live performances in mind, the new songs were crafted to sound powerful on stage, avoiding excessive layering.
Thirdly, the music needed to be dynamic in both sound and pace to keep the drummer engaged during live performances.
Lyrically, the first three tracks of the album explore the theme of AI. The following two tracks are about finding ways to transform and resurrect from inner turmoil. The last regular track is musically rather different from the other tracks. Lyrically, it hails doom metal. After this, a re-recording of the first-ever-written Doomcult-track, Angel, ends the album. The track was re-recorded to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Doomcult in 2024 and it was re-mixed to match the other tracks on the album.
