Old Night is a doom metal band from Rijeka, Croatia, formed in 2015 by Luka Petrović. The vision behind Old Night was to create innovative and original music, free from external expectations and limitations.

While deeply rooted in traditional doom metal, Old Night’s sound draws heavily from traditional heavy metal, progressive rock and atmospheric music, resulting in a style that is both expansive and emotionally resonant.

The band released its debut album, Pale Cold Irrelevance, in August 2017 through Rain Without End Records / Naturmacht Productions. The album was met with strong acclaim from both critics and fans. In support of the release, Old Night debuted their first music video for the song "Architects of Doom", which was nominated for Single of the Week on Croatia’s largest music portal, Muzika.hr.

In autumn 2018, the band returned to G.I.S. Studios to begin recording their second full-length album, A Fracture in the Human Soul. Released in May 2019, the album was once again mixed and mastered by Insanus at Dungeon Studios in Poole, UK. This sophomore effort showcased a more focused and mature sound, featuring five epic tracks woven with intricate guitar melodies and haunting vocals—expanding on their signature style.

Two music videos supported the release: “Elder” and “Glacial.” The album received outstanding feedback from both the public and media, leading to a nomination at the RiRock Awards. Old Night was honored with the “Artist of the Year” award, recognizing them as one of the most hardworking bands in the region. Source

In 2022, Old Night released their most ambitious album yet: Ghost Light, via the legendary Russian label Solitude Productions. This concept album marked both the culmination and the conclusion of a trilogy that began with their 2017 debut. Ghost Light ventures deeper into the darkest corners of the human psyche, blending heavy, emotive, and atmospheric elements in a bold new direction.

At the end of 2023, frontman Matej Hanzek stepped down—marking the band’s first lineup change since 2016. After careful consideration, the band chose to look within: Ivan Hanzek, who had been providing backing vocals since joining, stepped into the role of lead vocalist. With the addition of Rafael Cvitković on rhythm guitar, Old Night’s lineup was once again complete.

Now with a renewed lineup, the band is finally ready to unveil their new record, Mediterranean Melancholy — a release that delves deeper and expands upon all the signature elements that make Old Night a distinctive force in the doom metal scene.
