Post Luctum is a Melodic Death/Doom project created in 2019 by Ian Goetchius in California, Southern Maryland. (USA)
The sound is steeped in sorrow, weight, and the slow, deliberate descent into emotional ruin.  The band draws from the heaviest traditions of death-doom,  merging crushing riffs and cavernous vocals with mournful melodies and a sense of atmospheric dread that lingers long after the final note fades.

Post Luctum - Latin for “after grief” - embodies its name fully. 
Their music dwells in the aftermath: the numb quiet that follows loss, the cold clarity of reflection, and the bleak beauty discovered in ruins. 
With influences ranging from Swallow the Sun, Cult of Luna, Paradise Lost, and Shape of Despair, the band shapes these elements into something distinctly their own - raw, introspective, and emotionally unrelenting.

Their releases explore themes of grief, isolation, and existential weight. Slow-burning compositions build from calm into towering walls of distortion, while the vocals move between deep growls, high screams, and somber cleans. The result is a sonic landscape both devastating and intimate—a tribute to sorrow and the human condition.

Post Luctum continues to carve out a place in the extreme metal underground, delivering music that offers no escape, only immersion.  For those who seek catharsis in heaviness and beauty in darkness, Post Luctum opens the door to the solemn world that exists after grief.'Timor Lucis' is an album written while feeling alone, rejected, and being isolated. An analogy for this feeling was sparked by thinking on the times of lighthouse keepers. Alone, they sit through bad weather and their own isolation, and they did it to save and benefit others. Letting their light guide sailors to safety.

But, 'Timor Lucis' is latin for the fear of light. There's always that part that finds the isolation addicting. We absolutely have times we want someone to connect with us, but what do you do once you've grown accustomed to being alone with your thoughts?
Where the idea of bringing someone to you to see and know you now feels uncomfortable. So then you selfishly dim the light as to not be seen. To not be known. Until you just want to turn the light out all together, and just accept being alone...All music written, performed, and recorded by Ian Goetchius.
